Water Heater TPV

Posted in Uncategorized on by .

Attention all Attics and Under Clients!  Please remember to test and then drain your water TPV (Temperature Pressure Safety Relief Valve) or Pop OFF valve at least once each year.  This is to confirm that it has not rusted and stuck shut and will open and discharge properly to relieve any excess pressure or temperature.  To test it lift the lever and allow water to discharge via the discharge line for about a minute, then release it, and check for any leaks.  After testing the TPV then drain the discharge line if it traps water so the standing water on the back side of the valve does not cause it to rust and stick.  If the TPV continues to leak around the valve stem it should be replaced by a licensed qualified plumber.
